River Parish Council is working on a project to improve the facilities at Rver Recreation Ground and make them more attractive to a wider section of the community.
An outdoor table tennis table, a basketball hoop and seating areas have already been installed. Spring 2017 saw the completion of a new toddler play area (for children under 5 years of age) as the equipment in the existing one is coming towards the end of its lifespan. This stage has been funded by the Parish Council. Several companies were examined and detailed quotations received from three before Eibe Play Ltd were chosen as the contractor for this stage.
This was followed by the installation of an outdoor fitness area with seven pieces of gym equipment, ten exercise stations, providing a diverse range of exercise options for the young, old and a level of suitability for some people with disabilities. Each piece of equipment has guidance for use to help people get the most from it. Part funding has been received from the Kent Capital Sport Fund for the gym.
The final stage of this project is the new Junior Play Area being installed by Playdale. This is part funded by a National Lottery Awards for All grant. The construction work began on 7th March and should be completed by Easter 2018.
